Book Report I

Setting

The setting of the novel is in Treasure Island in the middle of eighteen century. The Story is begun in year 1756.

Major characters

1. Jim Hawkins

Description : He is a strong boy. His age is about twelve years old when he began to find the treasure. He is courageous and smart.

2. Dr. Livesey

Description : He is a very kind person. He is very care with the other and a patient person.

3. Captain Smollet

Description : He is a sailor and a very kind person. He is smart, courageous, and strong.

4. Squire Trelawney

Description : He is a kind and a rich person. He lives in a big white house on the hill outside the village. He is courageous and strong.

5. Ben Gunn

Description : He has long white hair and long beard. His cloth is torn and ragged. He wears a leather belt round his waist. He is very strong, not a desperate person, and also very kind.

6. Long John Silver

Description : He is a pirate, a murderer, and a thief. He is very cruel, selfish and greedy. His left leg is missing and he curries a crutch under his left arm but he can moves quickly and also run.

Summary

Jim Hawkins, Dr. Livesey, and Squire Trelawney went to Treasure Island to find the Captain Flint’s treasure by sailing ship. Hispaniola was the name of the ship and Captain Smollet was the captain of Hispaniola. They went with Long John Silver as the ship’s cook. Someday, Jim heard a conversation Silver and young sailor. Jim knew that Silver was a pirate who wanted the treasure. Then, Jim told to Dr. Livesey, Squire Trelawney and, Captain Smollet about something that he had heard.

In Treasure Island, Jim met Ben Gunn. Ben Gunn told that Flint’s men marooned him and now he wanted to go home. Suddenly, Jim heard the voice of cannon which was firing. Then, Jim ran toward the Stockade. Ben Gunn said that Jim’s Friends were at there. At Stockade, Jim met Dr. Livesey, Squire Trelawney and, Captain Smollet and he told all about Ben Gunn. When they was sleeping, Silver came. They fought with Silver and they won the fighting so Silver ran. At night, Jim went out to find Ben Gunn’s boat without told with anyone. Jim went to Hispaniola to move the ship toward north of Treasure Island. Jim succeeded and he came back to stockade. Unfortunately, Silver was the owner of stockade now. Then, Jim followed Silver to find the treasure before that, Jim met Dr. Livesey and told about his plan. Besides, Dr. Livesey told that Ben Gunn was with him.

Jim, Silver, and the other pirates went to find the treasure. Then, they found the treasure’s place. The pirates dug up the soil but they couldn’t find anything so they were mad. They wanted to kill Jim and Silver. Fortunately, Dr. Livesey, Squire Trelawney, and Captain Smollet helped them and pirates ran away. Dr. Livesey told that Ben Gunn had found the treasure. They left the Treasure Island and they anchored the ship when they reached land. When they returned to the ship, they didn’t meet Silver. Silver went with boat and three thousand pounds. After that, they continued voyage. Finally, they were a rich people now. They lived happy.

What is the Major conflict in the story?

The Major conflict in the story is about the struggle to find the treasure.

How does the story end?

The story ends with happy ending. Jim Hawkins, Dr. Livesey, Squire Trelawney, and Captain Smollet get the treasure. Long John Silver doesn’t find the Treasure because Ben Gunn had found it before them and the pirates were very mad so want to kill Silver. Dr. Livesey, Squire Trelawney, and Captain Smollet help him. Then, they come back to England. Long John Silver steals three thousand pounds of the treasure in the voyage. Jim Hawkins, Dr. Livesey, Squire Trelawney, and Captain Smollet share the Treasure in England. Each of them has some money. They become wealthy.

What is the theme of the book?

The theme of the book is we must courageous and don’t feel desperate when faces the challenge.

Do you like the book?

Yes, I like this book because I’m very interested about the story which tells about the adventure to find the Captain Flint’s treasure. I can imagine how great the adventure. The story is very interesting because tells about the struggle to reach the Treasure Island which has many challenges. This book is very appropriate to read for everyone.

This book was easy to read.
